Apprentices’ Sculling Weekend 2023

8 – 10 September
Henley-on-Thames

All our apprentices, whether or not you’ve rowed before, are invited to attend this year’s Sculling Weekend in Henley on Thames. This wonderful opportunity will allow you to gain sculling knowledge and experience with knowledgeable coaches on hand to guide you.

The weekend is aimed at all levels, and we appreciate our more experienced apprentices, as well as many of our Freemen, attending to assist and share their knowledge with our novice rowers.

This fun, social weekend allows you to learn, improve, and race, whatever your previous experience, and it also gives you the opportunity to meet other apprentices and Freemen of the Company.

The weekend’s programme includes an introduction to the sport and the equipment, with coaching sessions for all levels, which will allow you to build your confidence on the river. It is important that you learn to scull correctly, particularly if you consider entering the Doggett’s Coat and Badge Wager at the end of your Apprenticeship.

The social programme includes a Friday evening curry at Asiana Spice, Henley, and a formal dinner at Leander Club on Saturday. Lunch will be available during the break on Saturday. Dress code for the curry evening is smart casual and for Saturday night dinner is jacket and tie/smart attire.

This weekend is significantly subsidised by the Company’s charity for apprentices and allows us to offer the cost per person at £195 which includes:

  • Two nights bed and breakfast at Henley Business School
  • Lunch on Saturday
  • Friday night curry
  • Formal dinner at Leander Club
  • All rowing equipment and coaching

Accommodation and boats are limited, so early booking, via the Members Booking System is advised – they will be taken on a first-come, first-served basis.

Places can only be offered to apprentices who have reached their 18th birthday before 16 September. If you are under 18, and would still like to attend, please contact us directly 020 7283 2373 and we will do our best to make arrangements.
