Woolwich Ferry New Names

The two  new state of the art boats are being delivered  to the Woolwich Ferry next year have now  been official named-

They are to be called the Ben Woollacott, after the former desk hand who died whilst working on the ferry  in 2011 and the Dame Vera Lynn, the legendary singer from the East End,

Ben’s family have worked on the River for many years and  Ben was the sixth generation of Thames Watermen.  The naming of the  one of the is a fitting tribute to an apprentice who loved the River and is much missed by his family as well as those working on the River.
