State Visit from The Netherlands

The Royal Watermen were on duty for the recent State Visit of King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima of The Netherlands.

The Watermen assembled in the Royal Mews before boarding the carriages to pick up the VIPs on Horseguards’ Parade and on to Buckingham Palace.

Royal Watermen perform this duty to replicate the time when the monarch of the day would have been rowed by Royal Barge to meet the dignitaries, and the Royal Watermen would escort the Crown.

Pictured (L to R) are: Rob Coleman, Daniel Ludwig (first duty), Jeremy McCarthy,  Chris Livett (Bargemaster to HM the Queen), The Lord Vesty ( his last State Visit after 40 such events in 21 years), Simon McCarthy, Paul Prentice, David Arnold (first duty) and Tim Keetch.
