It has been announced that the Rev’d Bertrand Olivier, Vicar of All Hallows by the Tower since 2005, is to be the next Rector of Christ Church Cathedral and the Dean of Montreal (Québec, Canada).  He is to take up his position there in February 2018.

The Rev’d Bertrand Olivier said ‘It is a huge honour and privilege for me to have been invited to serve the bilingual Anglican Cathedral Community in Montreal and I relish the prospect of being able to integrate both anglophone and francophone sides of my personality, in order to share the Gospel in this new context for me.  I look forward to working with the Bishop of Montreal, the Rt Rev’d Mary Irwin-Gibson and the whole diocese in this exciting next step of my journey.’

Reflecting on his nearly 13 years in the City, Bertrand  said that, as well as ministering in the unconventional parish context of All Hallows,  he had particularly enjoyed developing links with the Civic City and the historic Livery world, and had felt honoured to officiate at many events of significance in the life of the Company of Watermen and Lightermen of the River Thames.  ‘I have been grateful to have been taken into the heart of many Watermen families over the years, and privileged to have baptised, married and buried Freemen of the Company and members of their family’, he added.

Our Master Simon McCarthy said “All of us at the Watermen’s Company wish to thank our Honorary Chaplain for his dedicated contribution to our Company life and we wish him all the best on his new adventure.
